Why I Made This Reverse Oblation Run

Philippines maybe have women bikini show at pool but that is different from male-full-frontal-naked-only-festival at legal institution. It’s unfair if female can easily see men full frontal nudity at public especially at legal institution when the reverse situation is difficult to happen (also cannot happen without easily derided as objectification/sexism), also i think it already offensive by society if women just half naked like topless at university right? so why tolerated men even full frontal nudity (exposed his genitalia) at university where the female feel free to jokes and photos it?

So i want to change our unfair perception that based on gender, if it is okey for female to see men-full-naked-festival at university then it must be okey too if the situation where reverse, a men see female-full-naked-festival at university.

or if it is offensive if men see women full frontal naked at university then it must be wrong too if the situation where reverse (a women see men full frontal nudity). That is the only thing that i want fairness and equality

  1. I notice that in your blog you state that people say “oh the men do it willingly”. If they are speaking informally, that is true. If we consider it from a legal point of view, we cannot be sure. Legally, a person can give consent to do something willingly only if he is an adult. When nude entertainers were allowed to perform in bars, they were required to prove that they were at least 18 years old, and therefore capable of performing willingly. We have no proof of the identity or age of most of the oblation run participants. Some of them may be minors. Some of the spectators are definately minors.

You also state that people say ”women are allowed too”. Who in any position of authority said that women can streak naked too? The UP administration and Philippine law are the only authorities who can decide what is allowed on UP campus. My understanding is that the law prohibits both male and female nudity in public places, but the law is never enforced against males on the UP campus. Has any legal authority said they will not enforce the law against females? If not, we must assume that the law remains in effect and any female who attempts to run nude on campus will be arrested.

Has the UP administration ever publicly stated that nudity on campus is allowed for females, or for males who are not authorized by the APO fraternity to run naked? APO has publicly stated years ago that they have a strict policy that prohibits female oblation runners. Several years ago, UP celebrated its 100th anniversary. UP administration requested that APO provide 100 naked men to perform at the 100 year aniversary ceremony. UP knew that APO had a policy of only male nudity, and that female performers would not be allowed to participate in the official ceremony. APO admitted that they could not get 100 males to perform naked at the ceremony from their current membership at UP. They got 100 naked males by getting other people; we don’t know who. Therefore, we know that UP approved (and in fact, requested) nude performers who were not necessarily members of APO, of even associated in any way with UP. The only requirement was that they had to be male.

Later, the UP administration sponsored their own oblation event without the help of APO. It was advertised as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” to view and photograph oblation performers without their masks. In this case the performers wore fig leaves, like the oblation statue, but nothing else. When they recruited volunteers to perform at this event, UP specifically required that only males associated with the university would be allowed. It appears that according to the UP administration, it is not true that ”women are allowed too”.

  2. Dear reverseoblationrun,
I am not a Philippine citizen. If I were, this is the letter that I would email to my congressman. If you are a Philippine citizen, and agree with this, feel free to send the letter to your congressman. Even if you are not a student at UP, if you are a Philippine citizen, you own UP and have a right to give your opinion about how it is operated.

    Dear Congressman,
Every year in December, a an “Oblation Run” is held at several campuses of the University of the Philippines (UP). The Oblation Run is done by a fraternity Alpha Phi Omega (APO) to support some worthy cause. The Oblation Run consists of naked men, wearing masks but nothing else, running through public areas of the university. This prevents the public property of UP from being used as it was intended by the public. Of course, the UP administration has the authority to use the property for special purposes. They obviously believe that an Oblation Run is a special purpose worthy of being allowed exclusive use of public property for a period of time. That is their decision, and the purpose of this letter is not to argue that an Oblation Run should never be held. I believe, however, that if UP chooses to allow an Oblation Run, they have an obligation to treat all UP students, perhaps even all Philippine citizens, equally.

At present, only members of an exclusive private fraternity, APO, are allowed to participate in the Oblation Run. In 2005, two people who were not approved by APO ran in their own demonstration behind the APO Oblation Run. They were separated from the APO runners by a few minutes or less. They did not interfere with the APO Oblation Run, or cause any problem. Nevertheless, APO complained that they distracted attention from the APO runners. UP agreed to investigate and try to discover the identity. UP has never tried to discover the identities of the masked runners approved by APO, even though some of them may be minors. Why did they investigate the non-APO runners? Obviously, it was to have them expelled, arrested, or punished in some way.

UP has made no rules that specify under what conditions a nude demonstration is allowed. They have no procedure for approving such a demonstration in advance. The only rule appears to be that if you are approved by a wealthy elite fraternity, APO, you can do whatever you want. If you are the son or daughter of a Phillipine citizen and taxpayer who pays for the university, but not a member of the APO aristocracy, you are treated differently. If you choose to hold a demonstration on the same day as the APO Oblation Run, you can be expelled and arrested for interfering with APO. If you try to hold a demonstration on some other day, you will be expelled and arrested for interfering withg the legitimate use of public property and public nudity.

I am requesting that you ask the UP administration to publish rules that will state how Oblation Run type demonstrations can be conducted. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  3. Yes, absolutely. Without legal action, nothing is going to change. You need to write to the UP authorities. I am sure some people in the UP administration would be against this kind of practice. You need to find support from them.

    1. it is good news if females can join, but how can we know it is true? UP has never said that they will allow streaking, they just refuse to arrest APO people during oblation run because it is traditional, and does not, in their opinion, disrupt the university business.

If anybody, including women go naked at any time and place other than the oblation run, the university will expel them for disrupting the school and have them arrested for public nudity. If anybody other than APO goes naked at the time and place of the oblation run, they will be punished for interfering with APO. So in theory anybody, including women can streak at UP, but in reality they will be punished if they try.

The only time a public naked event other than the oblation run was allowed was at the 100 year anniversary of UP. UP specified that only males were allowed. When women ran naked behind the oblation run in 2005, UP investigated to try to find who they were to punish them.

A book of nudes was published for the 100 year anniversary of UP. This was not the public event; the photos were made in private. The book was sold publicly with nude models that were not wearing masks so everybody knew who they were. Many female students volunteered, more than could be used for the book. Therefore, the idea that women are allowed to streak but none volunteered to do it does not make sense.

We will believe that women are allowed to streak when one of two things happen; either
      1. UP officially and publicly designates a time and place where anybody, not just APO, can streak. or
      2. APO officially and publicly invites female volunteers to join them in the oblation run.

Also by oblation/ pylon run= male nudity already very normalize off course many men perceived it’s okay to willingly naked, while female nudity do still taboo at public Phi so off course lesser female want to do it (even the one who want to do it will get pressure by other who sensitive towards female nudity) i.e Boracay case were (just) one (non naked) female in lingerie (did it willingly) at f*cking swimming place (beach)= already got interrupt by some female (& male) who got upset (this will discourage body confidence female who want to nude at oblation run). Not to forgot little girl teach to be modest, little boy teach to shameless by objectifying himself bottomless at tuli operation= off course output will be opposite. But even that actually body confidence female at Phi do exist (see Phi model) if oblation run truly normalize for female- some of them will join nude even if still lesser than men (while now the status quo of 0 female naked is peculiar since in other country a naked streak fest do hv female join naked if truly allowed, even if it lesser).

By the way I’m at Southeast Asia, not so well in Tagalog, nice to meet you, if you’re on my side please keep in touch.
